Ask us a question ...

Tshego, Sandton - A recent airline quote for a group fare mentions that I must use the GDS for the tax calculation – is this correct ?

Yes – on the GDS, display a fare quote for the same class, dates of travel and itinerary for an individual traveller. This will give you an indication of the correct taxes to charge. But remember the actual taxes are only confirmed on ticketing.

Pamela, Corporate – I am arranging an outdoor event and need to ensure that I have covered all the safety and security requirements. What would be my best source of information ?

A very important question. We suggest you purchase a copy of the Health and Safety at Events Standard : SANS 10366 : 2009 Edition 2. Visit the South African Bureau of Standards at www.sabs.co.za

John, Port Elizabeth - what are the rules for distance between an audience and screens ?

The general rule of thumb is : the first row of seating should be no closer than twice the height of the screen, with the back row of the audience no more than eight times the height of the screen.

Gill, Johannesburg - can Event Stuff South Africa suggest an indoor catering facility for a great winter team building activity ?

For a fun-filled evening look no further than Pick n Pay Good Food Studio on William Nichol - they offer great motivational and inspirational cooking events www.picknpay.co.za

Thabo, PCO - Can you explain the difference between a Conference, a Convention and a Congress ?

A Conference is an event arranged by an organisation for delegates to meet, to discuss business related matters and to exchange views. Usually of short duration and on a smaller scale to that of a convention and a congress.   A Congress is a meeting of a large group of individuals, usually to discuss a particular topic, will last several days and may have simultaneous sessions, educational sessions, committee meetings, social functions and workshops.   Mostly held annually.  This is the European term for Convention.
